Qualifications & Recognitions

And Why These Set Me Apart!

  • I completed my Bachelor of Physical Activity & Health Science at ACU between 2016 and 2018, gaining expertise in exercise physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, and health promotion, with a focus on creating evidence-based exercise programs.

  • I completed my Cert III & IV in Fitness with eFit Academy in 2018, where I developed skills in designing and delivering fitness programs, understanding exercise science, and providing client support for improving overall health and fitness. The certification focused on practical training techniques, program development, and client assessment.

  • My Level 2 Recreational Running Coach course with Athletics Australia made me qualified in designing customised training programs and optimising performance for recreational runners while minimising injury risk. It covered key areas such as technique development, periodization, plyometrics, functional movement training, and energy availability to support overall training goals.

  • With three years of experience as an Online Run Coach, I co-founded First42K in 2021 alongside Coach Jase and DJ, focusing on helping individuals run their first marathon. As clients achieved their marathon goals, many wanted to progress to ultra-distance running, which naturally led to the evolution of our business. Since 2023, I've been dedicated to offering personalised one-on-one coaching to help runners of all levels, from beginners to ultra-athletes, reach their goals. In early 2025, we rebranded to Sean Bell Run Coaching. I'm proud to have DJ as my business partner, and he remains actively involved in the operations of Sean Bell Run Coaching.

  • After obtaining my Certificates III and IV in Fitness in 2018, I began my career as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, working both independently as a sole trader and with Intrepid Fitness in Nunawading, and F45 in Blackburn, Victoria. This experience allowed me to develop a deep understanding client engagement, and the importance of fostering a supportive community within fitness programs. It also enhanced my ability to design and implement effective training programs for a variety of fitness levels and goals. Now, as an online running coach, I leverage the knowledge gained from my studies and real-life personal training experience to create tailored strength and conditioning programs for my clients.

  • With seven years of experience racing marathons and ultramarathons, I've faced some of the sport’s toughest challenges. My journey began with the Melbourne Marathon in 2017, followed by my first ultra, the Great Ocean Road Ultra in 2018. That same year, I set the goal to one day run around Australia and have been reverse-engineering it ever since. In 2019, at 21 years old, I ran 50 marathons in 50 days and won the Bali Hope Ultra. In 2022, I ran 4,001 km from Cairns to Melbourne as a rehearsal for my run around Australia. 2023 saw major training milestones, including 201 km in the Coburg 24-Hour Race and winning my first 200-mile race (BVRT 200 Mile). In 2024, I broke a world record, becoming the Fastest Person to Run Around Australia, completing the required 13,383 km in 158 days, 14 hours, and 52 minutes.

Through these experiences, alongside my official studies (Bachelor of Physical Activity & Health Science, Cert III & IV in Fitness, and Athletics Australia Level 2 Recreational Run Coaching), I've gained invaluable insights into endurance, resilience, and smart training strategies. Now, I combine my academic knowledge with real-world experience to help others achieve their running goals. For a full list of my races, visit seanbellruns.com/about.

  • I am the World Record Holder for the Fastest Person to Run Around Australia, having averaged 84 km (two marathons) per day for 166 consecutive days, covering 13,964.11 km (8,676.89 miles) from the MCG to the MCG. My journey took me up Australia’s east coast to Sydney, Brisbane, and Townsville, west to Mt Isa, north to Darwin, west to Broome, south to Perth, and east to Adelaide, before returning to Melbourne. While the official record was broken on August 15, 2024, after running 13,383 km—the distance set by the first person to run around Australia, Ron Grant in 1983—I continued on for another week to complete the full circuit and close the loop.

This achievement highlights my expertise in endurance, mental resilience, and overcoming both physical and emotional challenges. I navigated extreme conditions, injuries, and tough decisions, learning the critical importance of consistency, energy management, and mental toughness.

As a run coach, I share these lessons with my athletes, focusing on Endurance, Quality, Strength, and Absorption. I guide them in breaking down long-term goals into manageable steps, empowering them to stay consistent and focused through any challenge. My story demonstrates that with the right combination of strategy, preparation, and mindset, anyone can achieve extraordinary results.

  1. How does Sean Bell Run Coaching work?
My coaching offers personalised training programs tailored to your fitness level, goals, and lifestyle. We’ll work together to build your endurance, strength, and speed, while ensuring there is adequate recovery between sessions for sustainable progress. You’ll receive structured run programming, strength training, regular progress calls, and ongoing support to keep you on track.

  2. I’m a beginner runner - can I join?
Absolutely! I work with runners of all levels, from complete beginners to experienced marathoners and ultra-runners. I will ensure you start safely, build confidence, and learn to love running.

  3. How does the premium trial work?
I offer a two-week Premium Trial for just $149, giving you full access to my highest level of coaching before committing longer term. You’ll receive a fully tailored program, premium support with twice-weekly check-ins, and two 1:1 calls—one at the start to set you up for success, and one at the end to review your progress and talk next steps. I run the trial this way for two reasons: first, to make sure you love the process—because when you enjoy your training, consistency and results follow. And second, to make sure I enjoy coaching you too. Coaching is a two-way street: you invest in me, and I invest in you—so this trial helps us both make sure it’s a great fit.

  4. How do I know which membership option is best for me?
If you're looking for a fully personalised plan with great support, both my Premium, and Pro memberships deliver exactly that. The difference? Premium is a higher level of support offering you regular coach calls on your terms; either 15-minute calls every fortnight or a longer monthly call, and Pro provides a 20-minute progress call each month. There are some other differences outside of the progress calls - see the full breakdown above under both membership types.

  5. How much is your membership and how am I billed?

Memberships are billed weekly via direct debit.

    • Premium Membership:
      – $79.95/week (cancel anytime with 2 weeks’ written notice)
      – or $74.95/week (locked in for 6 months)

    • Pro Membership:
      – $59.95/week (cancel anytime with 2 weeks’ written notice)
      – or $54.95/week (locked in for 6 months)

Depending on your goal, it’s common to need at least 6 months of consistent training to see meaningful results. That’s why I offer a discounted weekly rate for those who commit to a longer-term coaching journey — without needing to pay upfront. In the rare case that you develop an injury and would like to take a break from coaching rather than follow prescribed cross-training sessions, your payments will be paused until you're ready to return to running. Any time off won’t count toward your 6 month commitment.

  6. What qualifications does Sean have?

I am a Level 2 Recreational Running Coach accredited by Athletics Australia. I also hold a Bachelor of Physical Activity & Health Science, and Certificates III & IV in Fitness. With over 3 years of experience as an Online Run Coach, 5 years as a Personal Trainer, and real-life experience as a World-Record-holding Endurance Athlete (Fastest Person To Run Around Australia), I combine academic knowledge with real-world expertise to guide runners effectively to their goals.

  7. How do I monitor my progress?
I utilise TrainingPeaks an online coaching software, to track your performance over time. Regular Progress Calls and quarterly assessments like baseline tests help ensure you're progressing toward your goals and allow for data-driven adjustments to your training plan.

  8. Are there any community aspects to your online coaching?

Yes, becoming a part of Sean Bell Run Coaching connects you with a community of like-minded runners. This network offers opportunities for shared experiences, mutual support, and motivation throughout your training journey. I also hold group events within my online community, like our recent team Q and A call with Australia’s best ultra-distance runner Phil Gore.

  9. Can I adjust my training plan if my circumstances change?

Absolutely. Life events, injuries, or other commitments may necessitate adjustments to your training plan. While I use periodised training and program you one mesocycle at a time, I know that no training plan is ever set in stone and I work closely with you to modify your program as needed, ensuring it remains aligned with your evolving goals and circumstances.

  10. I already have my own strength and conditioning coach/personal trainer. Can I still work with you?
While I usually program both strength and running, in the circumstance where you already have an established strength and conditioning coach or personal trainer, I’ll collaborate with them to ensure that your training plan aligns with their guidance, including coordinating deload and peak weeks, creating a cohesive approach to your fitness and recovery. Together, we’ll work towards your goals while supporting your overall well-being.

  11. What if I’m dealing with an injury? Can you work with my physio to help me manage it and recover?
If you’re dealing with an injury, I’ll work collaboratively with your physio to take the guesswork out of your recovery. By aligning your training with their recommendations, we ensure a clear, focused approach to managing your injury while keeping you on track with your running goals. With the support of your physiotherapist and me, we’ll help you recover and come back stronger, so you can get back to smashing your running goals!
