The Run Within 1: The most important lessons from my run around Australia had very little to do with running.
Most people assume I only talk about running when I’m speaking on stage.
I don’t.
What I actually share are the lessons I’ve learned from ultra endurance, and how they apply directly to performance in Australian workplaces, where ownership, resilience, and holding standards under sustained pressure matter every day.
Running is just the environment those lessons came from.
And while I do speak about it, because it has shaped a large part of my career, that’s not the focus here.
The focus is what it reveals about people and performance when pressure doesn’t go away.
For context, this is my first newsletter, and possibly the first time you’re hearing from me. I dedicated 6 years of my life to training to run around Australia. I know that sounds absurd, but that’s what I did. I set the goal at 20 years old and completed it just before turning 27.
It involved thousands of early mornings, long training runs, and choosing discipline over comfort for years at a time. Alongside that, I completed a Bachelor of Physical Activity and Health Science and worked as a Personal Trainer.
The run was both a personal challenge and a charity effort supporting Make-A-Wish Australia, driven by the question: what am I capable of when I fully commit?

Finishing my Run Around Australia at the MCG on the 22nd of August 2024
In 2024, after 6 years of preparation, I became the fastest person in history to run around Australia.
I covered 13,964km in 165 consecutive days, 13 hours and 26 minutes, averaging over 84km per day (roughly two marathons every day), and raised $177,000 for Make-A-Wish Australia.
When people learn about my run for the first time, I almost always get these 2 questions:
Why would you want to do that? And how is that even possible?
My why becomes clearer over time through these newsletters. It is a commitment to get the best out of myself every day, use my strengths to make a difference, and show my younger self, who grew up with challenges at home and felt out of control, what is possible.
The how came down to three things: obsession, clarity of purpose, and a high-performance team (my support crew) working in alignment.
Today, I work as a keynote speaker for corporate, sporting and government organisations across Australia.
My flagship keynote is called The Run Within. Because what I learned is:
We all have a run within us.
Every day on the road, there were really two runs happening.
Between doubt and belief. Between stopping and taking the next step. Between who I was and who the run required me to become. It’s the same run I now see inside Australian teams every day.
Not on highways, but in decisions. When pressure builds. When things don’t go to plan. When it’s easier to pull back than step up.
I’ve spent a lot of time processing the run, from my preparation through to execution and everything that came after.
And one lesson continues to stand out.
It’s in the moments when no one is watching that performance is decided. Not in big meetings or high-pressure presentations, but in the small, everyday moments where standards either hold or quietly shift.
This is where it shows up in teams, when pressure builds, when priorities change and when clarity drops. It’s rarely a sudden breakdown.
It’s small shifts of:
- slightly less ownership
- slightly more delay
- slightly lower standards than what was agreed
And over time, that compounds into performance gaps.
What I care deeply about as a speaker is helping teams stay steady in those moments. Not through motivation, but through clarity of their roles and ownership of the next step.
Because while I was running around Australia, I wasn’t just running.
I was also leading a rotating team of 32 crew members, who were flying in and out, all responsible for staying aligned to our shared goal for Make-A-Wish Australia, while we executed under daily pressure. That experience is what I now bring into organisations.
And that’s what this blog will be about.
